This year, we launched our first ever 50/50 raffle fundraiser, and the response was incredible!
Here are a few sweet words from Pat, the grand prize winner of the draw:
"My connection with Habitat for Humanity occurred years ago when a teaching partner and I took students on two builds in Ghana (2009) and Botswana (2011).
These were life changing events for everyone and I feel blessed to have been part of the amazing experience of working in community to support our global neighbours.
Closer to home, I hope to participate in a Calgary area build someday but in the meantime the ReStore is one of my favourite places to find great buys while continuing to support Habitat.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought me back to Habitat! As part of the lay-off process for WestJet, I chose the early retirement route but now find myself with time and a desire to be purposeful in our community.
I was checking the Southern Alberta Habitat website for possible volunteer opportunities when I saw the information about the 50/50 raffle and decided that it would be a way to support Habitat until new volunteers are accepted.
I know Habitat Southern Alberta does amazing work for many families in our community and the need doesn't stop because we are experiencing a pandemic.
My hope is many people donate whatever they can even if only a few dollars to ensure that families continue to receive the help they need.
Winning the 50/50 raffle is such a gift. Finding myself retired early has changed a few plans but the $4,260 will help with home, family and friends.
