Habitat for Humanity homeowners Teklemichael and Ruta have worked hard to build a life in Canada since immigrating in 2013. As their family began to build a Canadian foundation, their family has doubled in size. Their two boys, Naod and Yosief, both born in the past five years. 

Future Habitat homeowners Ali and Ilknur are looking forward to putting down roots – both literally and metaphorically. One of the very first things they plan on doing when they move into their brand-new home in Chestermere next year is to build raised beds to plant their own vegetable garden. 

The sound of skates carving across the ice echoes through the arena. Laughter, cheers, and the thud of pucks hitting the boards fill the air as players—some pros, some local hockey enthusiasts—lace up for a game with a purpose far bigger than the scoreboard.
