Be inspired by these resilient families

What a unique time in our lives. All over the world we live on the razor’s edge, not knowing what will happen one day to the next.

And yet, for some the future has always been this uncertain. Take inspiration from your southern Albertan families. Below is a small collection of their words of encouragement.

BOOK

“We try to teach our kids that they don’t have to wait a week to be Saturday, or a year to have Christmas, or a lifetime to be happy. Life is now, today; tomorrow is a gift!”

“Life is the most amazing book that we write every day. The chapters written provide the strength to write the ones to come,” says Diana, a 2015 Airdrie Habitat homeowner.

“We all have trauma, and if I gave up and if any of you gave up, we wouldn’t be standing here today.”

“If you are hurting today, if you are facing a struggle or a challenge and there is a battle that no one knows about, know that you are going to make it through stronger and wiser and you will be better tomorrow.”

“You will find relief as this is not the end, this is only a chapter in your story and what’s to come ... please remember that people care, you are worthy and never underestimate the power of your mindset, thank you.”

“Hard work, faith in myself and faith in others ... it’s how we’ve been able to overcome our obstacles and exactly the reason we are beating all the odds!”

Nichole believes that where there is a will – there is a way. After fleeing domestic violence in 2005 and Nichole has raised her children as a single mom for the past ten years. She became a Habitat homeowner in 2015.

“I believe in the saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’”

“In my case, the village has been helping me raise my family for many years and that’s why our partnership with Habitat means so much to us."

"It literally encompasses the symbolic representation of home – defining unity and community – empowering strong and confident children and validating this mom beyond words.”
