Chestermere, AB – Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is set to begin construction on an entire city-block of affordable homes in Chestermere this summer, marking the organization’s first-ever development in the city. Once completed, the development in the Dawson’s Landing neighbourhood will represent a $9.6 million investment in affordable housing.

“As the need for affordable homeownership continues to rise, Habitat for Humanity is proud to be building in Chestermere for the first time,” said Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. “This project is about more than just building homes — it's about building community, stability, and independence for hardworking families.”

As one of Alberta's fastest-growing cities, with a population expected to triple by 2050, Chestermere needs more housing options to meet the needs of current and future residents.

Habitat will break ground on the development this summer and expects most of the homes to be completed in 2026. Each home will have three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, and 1,200 square feet of living space. They will be designed to match the architectural requirements of the community and blend seamlessly with the surrounding properties.

Applications are now open for families to purchase these homes through Habitat’s no-down-payment, interest-free mortgage program. Each qualifying family will contribute 500 volunteer hours, including time on the build site working alongside volunteers and tradespeople.

Every Habitat home is made possible thanks to community support. To learn more about making a donation, volunteering or buying a home, please visit habitatsouthernab.ca
