Blitz on Bowness tackles flood damage

It’s been nearly two years since the devastating floods of 2013, but families in Southern Alberta are still feeling the impact. Cindy, David and their two kids are one of these families. They've been sharing a one-bedroom suite since their home in Bowness was destroyed.

The family was forced to start from the ground-up after their home was demolished shortly after the flood. They had been working with our ReNewal team on home repairs, but they needed more help and they were running out of time, as their rental lease was set to expire.

The Blitz on Bowness was born from this family’s need. For two days of construction craze, Habitat Southern Alberta put all of its efforts into helping Cindy, David and their family get back into their home. All staff, crew leader and volunteer resources were devoted to the blitz, amounting to nearly 50 extra pairs of helping hands over the two days.

By the end of the second day more than 70 per cent of the drywall was complete, accelerating the build progress dramatically. The ReNewal team will continue to work with the family through this first phase of construction, making an immediate impact that will last for years to come.
