Meet Jeff! Jeff has become a familiar face on the Habitat build site, contributing around 600 hours of hard work and heart in just one year to help families achieve the dream of homeownership.
Keep reading to discover what drives Jeff's dedication and the incredible impact he's making.
Stepping up as a Crew Leader
After retiring from a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry, Jeff was on the lookout for something meaningful to fill his time. In January 2024, he found his perfect match with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta.
After months of volunteering regularly and gaining hands-on experience, Jeff was promoted to a Crew Leader in September.
His new role combines leadership and mentorship, allowing him to take on greater responsibilities.
As a Crew Leader, Jeff provides guidance and fosters teamwork to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
He also plays a key part in supporting homeowners as they complete their 500 volunteer hours, helping them learn valuable skills and feel confident in the process.

This hands-on approach has allowed Jeff to connect deeply with the volunteers and homeowners he works alongside, paving the way for meaningful relationships and a strong sense of community.
Building connections and community
“The staff are patient, knowledgeable, and safety-conscious,” Jeff explains. “They make things fun and create such a strong sense of team.” Jeff also cherishes the friendships he’s formed with fellow volunteers.
“Everyone I’ve met has been so friendly and encouraging—it’s easy to feel like you’re part of something bigger.”

Being a Crew Leader isn’t just about the tasks—it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and empowered to contribute.
Jeff’s leadership helps new and experienced volunteers alike feel confident and capable on-site.
As a Crew Leader, he’s a go-to person for advice and motivation, making a tangible impact on both the builds and the people involved.
Life beyond the build site
Jeff’s commitment to staying active mirrors the drive he brings to volunteering. When he isn’t volunteering, his energy and enthusiasm extend into every other part of his life.
As a sports enthusiast, he spends his winters curling, snowboarding, skiing, and playing hockey, while summers find him on the golf course and the lake.
Family is also a big part of Jeff’s life. Whether it’s gathering for a shared meal, enjoying a family outing, or simply spending time together at home, Jeff values the connections he builds with his loved ones.
In quieter moments, Jeff enjoys relaxing with a good book or his favorite TV shows, balancing his active lifestyle with time to recharge.
Jeff's dynamic approach to life—combining action, family, and service—makes him a true inspiration both on and off the build site!

Looking back on his journey with Habitat so far, Jeff says it best:
“Volunteering at Habitat is very rewarding.”
His dedication, leadership, and positive spirit have made an undeniable impact on both the homes he’s helped build and the community he’s fostered.
Jeff’s contributions remind us that a single volunteer can inspire others, create connections, and make lasting change.
Becoming a Crew Leader like Jeff isn’t just meaningful, “It’s very easy to sign up for shifts,” Jeff notes.
