A Habitat home is a stabilizing force for a family. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and the financial flexibility for parents to make investments in their families’ futures.
There is a growing need for affordable home ownership solutions for families in Southern Alberta. More than 4,000 families are on the waitlist for social housing in Calgary alone. Parents are working hard to provide for their children, but high rents, an unexpected illness or accident, or a family crisis makes saving for a down-payment and owning a home out of reach.
When we build homes, we build the foundation for generations of families in Southern Alberta to build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.
Habitat makes home ownership affordable by offering a mortgage with no down-payment, no interest and monthly payments that never more than 25% of a family's household income. This gives working families the ability to purchase their own homes and become independent home owners.
Strong and stable homes build strong and stable communities. Habitat homes meet and exceed industry standards of building and blend seamlessly into the neighbourhoods where they’re built, becoming part of the fabric of each community.
Each Habitat build project is managed by full-time, professional construction staff, and we have received the nationally recognized Certificate of Recognition for the safety and quality of our building practices. Every home goes through a complete planning process, from permitting to design to construction.
