For future Habitat homeowners Biniam and Senait, family means everything. Married for 27 years, the couple has built a life centered around love, hard work, and community. After immigrating from Sudan in 2021 with their four children, they have worked tirelessly to build a new beginning in Southern Alberta. Calgary has become a place where their children can grow, learn, and dream big. 

Chestermere, AB – Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta broke ground on 24 affordable townhomes in Chestermere, spanning an entire city block in the Qualico community of Dawson’s Landing. Habitat was joined by dozens of donors, volunteers, and community partners to celebrate this milestone.

Habitat for Humanity homeowners Teklemichael and Ruta have worked hard to build a life in Canada since immigrating in 2013. As their family began to build a Canadian foundation, their family has doubled in size. Their two boys, Naod and Yosief, both born in the past five years. 

Future Habitat homeowners Ali and Ilknur are looking forward to putting down roots – both literally and metaphorically. One of the very first things they plan on doing when they move into their brand-new home in Chestermere next year is to build raised beds to plant their own vegetable garden. 

Every August, a tight-knit group of cyclists takes on more than 300 kilometres through Alberta’s mountain passes and rugged terrain. It’s called Ride Through the Rockies — and for Dan Crockett, it’s become much more than a cycling event.

When Russ Wells first joined Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta in 2020, he probably didn’t expect he’d eventually step in to help lead our Community Engagement team—let alone become our Board Chair. But if you’ve met Russ, you know he has a way of quietly leaning in wherever help is needed most.
