Starting Over in a New Country
Moving across the world was not easy. Leaving behind the familiar and starting fresh in a new country came with challenges, but future Habitat homeowners Biniam and Senait were determined to provide their family with safety, opportunity, and a brighter future.
Senait works at a daycare, where her nurturing spirit shines every day. She loves being surrounded by children and seeing them learn and grow. Biniam works at a window and door company, putting in long hours to support his family and contribute to their dream of stability and homeownership.
A Family That Stays Active and Connected
When they’re not working, Biniam and Senait cherish time spent together as a family. Whether they’re playing sports, staying active outdoors, or gathering for traditional coffee time, these moments help them stay grounded and connected.
“For us, home is everything. Home is our peace, our life.”

Challenges in Their Current Home
Despite their hard work, the family’s current living situation has been far from ideal. Their home is too small for six people, and with three of their daughters sharing a single room, space is tight. During Alberta’s long, cold winters, the house becomes drafty and difficult to keep warm, forcing the family to rely on extra heaters just to stay comfortable.
Hope for a Stable and Comfortable Future
Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta offers Biniam and Senait the opportunity to change that. Through Habitat’s affordable homeownership program, they will be able to move into a safe, stable, and energy-efficient home that fits their family’s needs. With an affordable mortgage, the couple can focus on building financial stability and supporting their children’s future.
