Foothills Chapter launches online auction fundraiser

February 22, 2016, High River, AB – Today, the Foothills Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is launching its 3rd Annual Online Auction. The auction will raise funds for land and materials, which will be used to build new affordable homes for families within the Foothills.

The auction will run from today until March 10 and anyone can go online and bid on a huge variety of high quality items, ranging from family passes to West Edmonton Mall, to vehicle detailing or sled dog tours in the Rocky Mountains. There are items at every price range and there’s something for everyone. Auction items have been generously donated by Okotoks Ford, Evanescence Gallery, Vulcan Golf and Country Club and many other local businesses.

Just last month, the Foothills Chapter completed their first Habitat homes in High River, which were sold to two local families. Funds raised in the auction will go towards the next Foothills project.

“Affordable home ownership is a dream for many families,” said Marilyn Boake, Foothills Chapter Chair. “This fundraiser is the start of the collective community support that we need to make home ownership possible for more families in the Foothills.”

When enough money is raised to buy land and begin construction, the Foothills Chapter will call for volunteers to help build the homes that will be sold to local families. These families will buy the homes at market price and finance them with a no-interest, no-down-payment, affordable mortgage through Habitat. With the stability of home ownership, parents can give their children the foundation they need to reach their full potential.
