AIRDRIE, AB — Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is celebrating the completion of 11 affordable homes in Airdrie’s Bayview community, marking a significant milestone for families who now have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.
The $4.5 million development was made possible through support from the Government of Alberta, the Government of Canada through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the City of Airdrie, corporate partners, individual donors, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
“These homes wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of dedicated volunteers, partners, and community members. Together, we are building stronger communities and creating more opportunities for Albertans to succeed. Congratulations to the families who will benefit from this investment,” Corey Hogan, Member of Parliament for Calgary Confederation
“Safe, affordable housing is the foundation of strong communities here in Alberta. By investing in projects like this one in Airdrie, we’re helping more families put down roots and build a brighter future. This development is another step forward in strengthening communities across Alberta and growing opportunities for the people who call this province home,” The Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada
The completed homes will provide families with an opportunity to build brighter futures through affordable homeownership. Habitat homeowners purchase their homes through a no down payment, no-interest mortgage geared to their income, creating predictable housing costs and a foundation for long-term stability.
“For the families moving into Bayview, homeownership means no longer having to choose between paying rent and meeting other essential needs,” said Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, “It means putting down roots in a community, building equity, and creating the stability that helps children thrive. This project demonstrates what is possible when governments, businesses, donors, volunteers, and communities come together around a shared goal.”
“This home means everything to us. And gives us the freedom to leave a legacy for our kids”, said Lara, future Habitat homeowner. “It means we have somewhere that’s ours, and we’re so grateful to Habitat for making this possible for us.”
Projects like Bayview demonstrate how Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is building city blocks of affordable homeownership opportunities. This development alone represents 11 per cent of the City of Airdrie’s affordable housing target, helping families build brighter futures through affordable homeownership.
The impact extends well beyond the homes themselves. Stable housing has been linked to stronger educational outcomes, improved health, and greater financial well-being. By helping families access affordable homeownership, developments like Bayview create benefits that can be felt for generations.
