How it works

Habitat for Humanity builds homes with professional architects and trades and with the help of volunteers like you who get to have a hand in building a home.

The homes are built to spec and blend seamlessly with the neighbouring homes.

Habitat also holds the mortgage to each of the properties, so instead of borrowing money from a bank — you pay Habitat back — with no interest or down payment.

Each mortgage payment made by a homeowner is reinvested into Habitat to build more homes, so each family helps another family buy their first home.

Here are the steps to buying your home:

  1. Take the Eligibility Quiz to see if you meet the basic criteria to buy a Habitat home
  2. Attend an information session
  3. Submit an Application
  4. Complete your volunteer hours
  5. Buy and move in to your new home
