When doing home renovations or updating home décor, many individuals simply don’t know what to do with the household items they are replacing. While you could take your previously loved items to your local dump, it’s not the environmentally friendly option.

Before you head to your local dump to dispose of your unwanted items, we hope that you will consider one of the following ecofriendly disposable options.

Donate items to Habitat for Humanity ReStore

The ReStore accepts home décor, large appliances, furniture, lighting, building materials, and more! Proceeds from the ReStore are in turn used to help Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta families build strength and stability.

Not only can you request a free pick-up request for your donation, you will also receive a tax receipt if your donation value is over $20! It pays to be kind to the environment.

Review what the ReStore donation guidelines to see if you can donate your items.

Online Market Place

Sell your used goods through an online market place like Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace. These online markets allow you to post your items for free, and give you the opportunity to connect with someone who sees your preloved item as their home décor or home renovation solution! Bonus, you keep all the proceeds from your sale.

Junk removal companies

If you simply want someone to come and remove all of your unwanted household goods, you can call companies such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK. These companies will pick-up for a cost and many of them will donate items to local charities and ecofriendly recycling programs.

The next time you upgrade an item at your home, we hope that you will consider one of these ecofriendly options!
