He truly lived a life of service and was an unparalleled champion of human rights and the dignity of all people, helping open the doors to brighter futures for thousands of Habitat homeowners.
President and Mrs. Carter led the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity International for more than 35 years. They worked alongside more than 100,000 volunteers to build, renovate and repair 4,400 Habitat for Humanity homes in 14 countries, all while raising awareness of the critical need for affordable housing.
At Habitat Southern Alberta, we were fortunate to participate in the 34th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in 2017. This initiative helped build 150 homes across the country for Canada’s 150th anniversary. Calgary was one of 50 communities that participated nationally, dedicating eight homes in the northeast community of Pineridge.
We hope you will join us in honouring the legacy of the one person who, more than anyone, has helped Habitat focus worldwide attention on the issue of adequate housing and has helped Habitat homeowners build strength, stability and self-reliance.
Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization that helps families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.
In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
