Some people never give up - no matter what. Myriam and David are those kind of people. Tragic events in Colombia forced them to lose everything, twice. Myriam lived alone in Canada for five years to get her family Permanent Residency.
Then, once reunited in Canada, the family lived in the basement of Myriam’s sister’s home for four years. All these hope-filled years made the purchase of their Habitat home in Silver Springs a long-awaited dream come true.
After 18 years of living with family, last February, Myriam and David moved into a home with just their children.
But then, two weeks later, The City of Calgary declared a state of emergency.
Without you, their story this year would have be very different. Santhiago and Thathiana would still be sharing a room in their Uncle's basement. Myriam and David would still be fighting for a home for their children. Read more of their story here.
The Habitat affordable mortgage plan reduces or defers payments depending on a family's needs. With additional resources added this year to help them navigate new realities, families feel safe and supported by their community.
“It is not about a door or a wall or a window. It’s about family,” says David. “If our kids want to come back in 10, 15, 20 years, we want this to still be here - their house.”
Because of you, it will.
There's something about having a home base that you know is always there that makes it easier to plan the rest of your life.

“Thank you isn't a big enough word.
It's not enough to show how happy
and thankful we are.”
